Algal Turf Scrubber

An Algal Turf Scrubber (ATS) is a water treatment system that uses a controlled flow of nutrient-rich water over a surface coated with algae. As algae grow, they absorb pollutants like nitrogen and phosphorus from the water. Periodically, the algae are scraped off and removed, taking the pollutants with them. This natural process cleans the water efficiently and sustainably. ATS technology is eco-friendly, accepting wastewater or runoff as input, and can produce biomass that may be used for biofuels or other products, making it a versatile solution for improving water quality while generating useful byproducts.
