Alfred Wegener (meteorologist)

Alfred Wegener was a German meteorologist and geophysicist best known for proposing the theory of continental drift in the early 20th century. He suggested that Earth's continents were once joined together in a single landmass called Pangaea, which later split apart and drifted to their current positions. Wegener's ideas gained attention through evidence from geology, fossil distribution, and climate patterns. Although initially met with skepticism, his work laid the groundwork for the modern theory of plate tectonics, fundamentally changing our understanding of Earth's geological processes and the movement of continents over time.
