Alfonso I of Asturias

Alfonso I of Asturias, also known as Alfonso the Catholic, was a 8th-century king who expanded the Christian kingdom of Asturias in northern Spain. He was instrumental in resisting Muslim advances during the early Reconquista, leading military campaigns that consolidated and grew his territory. His leadership helped establish the foundations for the future Christian kingdoms in Spain. Alfonso was also recognized for strengthening the kingdom's defenses and encouraging religious and cultural development.
