Alexander MacKenzie was a Canadian explorer in the late 18th century known for being the first recorded European to reach the Pacific Ocean overland from Canada. Leading an expedition from the fur trading outposts in what is now part of Ontario, he navigated through the vast and challenging wilderness of the Canadian Rockies and Prairie provinces, ultimately arriving at the Pacific coast in 1793. His journey demonstrated the potential for overland exploration across North America and helped open up routes for future exploration and trade, notably expanding European knowledge of the continent's interior.
