Aleutian Command
Aleutian Command was a military organization established during World War II, responsible for the defense of the Aleutian Islands in Alaska. The command was activated in 1942 in response to Japanese occupation of the islands of Attu and Kiska. Its primary goal was to protect American territory and prevent further Japanese advances in the Pacific. Led by General Simon Bolivar Buckner, the command coordinated ground forces, air support, and logistical operations. The campaign to reclaim the islands involved significant battles and ultimately led to the Americans regaining control, demonstrating the strategic importance of this remote region during the war.
