Alethic Modality
Alethic modality refers to the way we discuss what is necessarily true, possibly true, or impossibly true. It deals with the truth of statements in terms of necessity and possibility. For example, if we say, "It is necessary for all bachelors to be unmarried," we are expressing a truth that cannot be otherwise. Conversely, when we say, "It is possible that it will rain tomorrow," we acknowledge that while it might not happen, it is within the realm of possibility. Alethic modality helps us categorize and understand the different ways in which propositions can relate to truth.
