Aleatoric Music

Aleatoric music, often referred to as chance music, is a style where elements of composition are left to chance or are controlled unpredictably. This means that aspects such as timing, pitch, or order might be determined randomly, allowing performers to interpret and create unique variations of a piece each time it is played. Originating in the 20th century, it challenges traditional notions of authorship and predictability in music, emphasizing spontaneity and the presence of uncertainty in the creative process. Notable composers include John Cage and Karlheinz Stockhausen.
