
Aldus Manutius
Aldus Manutius was a Venetian printer and publisher in the 15th and early 16th centuries, known for his innovative contributions to the book industry. He founded the Aldine Press and is celebrated for popularizing italic type and the use of portable, affordable books, known as "pocket-size" editions. Manutius emphasized high-quality printing and scholarly accuracy, significantly advancing the Renaissance humanist movement. His work made literature more accessible, helping to spread knowledge and culture across Europe. His legacy includes the introduction of the ampersand (&) as well as the concept of the modern printed book design.
