Aldabra Giant Tortoise

The Aldabra giant tortoise is one of the largest tortoise species in the world, native to the Aldabra Atoll in the Seychelles. It can live over 100 years and weigh up to 250 kilograms (550 pounds). These tortoises have a domed shell and sturdy limbs, suited for their herbivorous diet of grasses, leaves, and woody plants. They play a vital role in their ecosystem by helping to disperse seeds. Conservation efforts are important as their population was once threatened by overhunting and habitat loss, but they are now protected and considered a symbol of island wildlife preservation.
