Albrecht Kossel

Albrecht Kossel was a German biochemist known for discovering and studying the chemical building blocks of DNA and proteins, called nucleic acids. His research uncovered the structure of these molecules and identified key components like DNA’s bases—adenine, thymine, cytosine, and guanine. His work laid the foundation for understanding genetic information at the molecular level. In 1910, Kossel received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his pioneering contributions. His discoveries revolutionized biology and medicine by revealing how genetic information is stored and transferred within living organisms.
