Albert Ludwig Sigesmund Neisser

Albert Ludwig Sigesmund Neisser was a German dermatologist and bacteriologist, born in 1855, best known for discovering the bacterium responsible for gonorrhea, *Neisseria gonorrhoeae*, in 1879. His work was pivotal in microbiology and medicine, helping to understand sexually transmitted infections. Neisser also contributed to research on various skin diseases and was innovative in using microscopy to study bacteria. Throughout his career, he emphasized the importance of hygiene and public health. Neisser's contributions helped lay the groundwork for modern microbiology and the clinical understanding of sexually transmitted diseases. He passed away in 1916.
