Alates

Alates are winged reproductive termites that emerge in swarms to mate and establish new colonies. Often called "alate termites" or "swarmers," they develop from wingless workers and soldiers when conditions are right, typically during specific seasons. Once they leave their original colony, they pair up, shed their wings, and start new colonies elsewhere. Their winged state allows them to disperse over distances, ensuring the spread of the termite species and maintaining colony populations.
