Aksum Obelisks
The Aksum Obelisks are tall, intricately carved stone monuments from ancient Ethiopia, built around the 4th century AD by the Kingdom of Aksum. They served as markers for underground tombs and symbolized the power and religious beliefs of the rulers. These obelisks are notable for their height, detailed adornments, and remarkable craftsmanship, reflecting advanced engineering skills of the time. They are considered cultural treasures and signify Ethiopia’s rich history, blending artistry, spirituality, and political authority. Recently, some obelisks have been recovered and re-erected after being taken to Italy during colonial times.
