Akosombo Dam
The Akosombo Dam, located in Ghana, is a large hydroelectric power station built on the Volta River. It creates Lake Volta, one of the world's largest artificial reservoirs, by blocking the river's flow. The dam generates electricity by using the force of falling water to turn turbines, providing a significant portion of Ghana’s power needs. Additionally, it helps control flooding and supports irrigation. Completed in 1965, the dam has been crucial for Ghana’s development, supplying clean energy and promoting economic growth in the region.
