Akkadian pantheon
The Akkadian pantheon, part of ancient Mesopotamian religion, comprised a family of gods with distinct roles. Key deities included Anu, the sky god; Enlil, the god of air and kingship; Enki (Ea), the god of wisdom and water; and Ishtar, goddess of love and war. These gods were believed to influence natural forces and human destiny, often depicted with human traits and stories. They were worshipped through rituals, temples, and offerings, reflecting their importance in daily life and governance. The Akkadian pantheon integrated earlier Sumerian gods, shaping the religious culture of Mesopotamia.
