Akkad (city)
Akkad was an ancient city in northern Mesopotamia, around 2340-2100 BCE, and served as the capital of the Akkadian Empire founded by Sargon the Great. It played a vital role in unifying much of Mesopotamia under one rule and became a center of political power, trade, and culture. Although the city declined after the empire's fall, Akkad's influence persisted through its contributions to early governance, art, and language, marking it as a significant site in the development of early Mesopotamian civilization.
