Akinesia

Akinesia is a medical term for the difficulty or inability to initiate voluntary movement. It is commonly associated with Parkinson’s disease and results from the loss of certain brain cells that produce dopamine, a chemical that helps control movement. As a consequence, people with akinesia may appear to be staring or may struggle to start moving, affecting activities like walking or speaking. It’s not a paralysis but a hesitation or delay in movement. Treatment often focuses on medications that increase dopamine levels or simulate its effects to improve motor function.
