AIS (Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome)

Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome (AIS) is a genetic condition where a person with XY chromosomes (typically associated with male development) is resistant to male hormones called androgens. As a result, their body cannot respond to these hormones, leading to the development of mostly female physical characteristics despite having male chromosomes. AIS can vary in severity, with some individuals appearing completely female (complete AIS) and others having partial features (partial AIS). People with AIS usually have undescended testes, a typical female external appearance, but no uterus or ovaries. AIS is a result of a mutation affecting the body's ability to respond to androgen hormones.
