Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ)
An Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) is a designated area of airspace surrounding a country’s borders, where aircraft are required to identify themselves to national authorities before entering. Its purpose is to enhance security by providing time to assess and respond to potential threats. While not a sovereign airspace (which is controlled), an ADIZ extends beyond the borders and helps countries monitor and manage aerial traffic, especially in sensitive regions, ensuring safer skies and better coordination of military and civilian flights.
