Ainu

The Ainu are an Indigenous people of Japan, primarily residing in Hokkaido, as well as parts of Russia, like the Kuril Islands and Sakhalin. They have a distinct culture, language, and belief system, deeply connected to nature and ancestral spirits. Traditionally, Ainu people engaged in activities like fishing, hunting, and gathering. Their rich heritage includes unique art, music, and rituals. Over time, Ainu culture has faced significant challenges and decline due to assimilation policies. In recent years, there has been a revival of interest in preserving and promoting Ainu language and traditions, gaining recognition and support from the Japanese government.
