Ailsa Craig
Ailsa Craig is a small, uninhabited volcanic island located in the Firth of Clyde, Scotland. Rising about 370 meters (1,200 feet) above sea level, it features a distinctive, rounded shape with a prominent granite summit. Historically, it was used as a bird sanctuary and a quarry, providing granite called “Ailsa Craig granite,” famous for its quality. The island is also known for its cultural significance and natural beauty, with seabirds nesting there. Due to its remote location and protected status, access is limited, making it a notable natural landmark in the region.
