Aileron
An aileron is a hinged device located on the wings of an airplane that helps control its roll, or the tilting motion from side to side. When a pilot moves the control stick or wheel, one aileron goes up while the other goes down. This difference in position causes the lift on each wing to change, making one wing rise and the other descend. As a result, the airplane rotates around its longitudinal axis, allowing it to bank or turn smoothly. Ailerons are essential for precise, coordinated maneuvers during flight.
