aid climbing
Aid climbing is a technical form of rock climbing where climbers use specialized gear, such as anchors, ladders, and devices called "aiders," to progress upward on a route that may be too difficult or impossible to climb free. Instead of relying solely on hand and foot holds, climbers attach their gear to the rock and use it to support their weight, effectively "peeling" the route with equipment rather than natural holds. This technique is often employed on very steep or challenging terrain, especially during the initial ascent of difficult or unclimbed routes.
