Agricultural Workers Organizing Committee

The Agricultural Workers Organizing Committee (AWOC) was a labor union formed in 1960 to advocate for the rights of farmworkers, many of whom were Filipino and Mexican immigrants. It aimed to improve working conditions, wages, and treatment for agricultural laborers, who often faced low pay, long hours, and unfair treatment. AWOC played a key role in the farmworker movement, notably helping coordinate the 1965 grape strike led by Cesar Chavez and others, which significantly advanced efforts for farmworker rights and social justice.
