Agreement of the People
The Agreement of the People was a series of political ideas and proposals debated during the English Civil War in the 1640s. It aimed to create a more democratic government by limiting the king's power and increasing the influence of common people, including reforms like broader voting rights and representation. Although it was never officially implemented, it influenced later democratic principles and reflected widespread desire for political reform and greater accountability from leaders. Essentially, it was an early effort to rethink how the government should serve and represent the people.
