agents of socialization

Agents of socialization are the individuals, groups, and institutions that shape our beliefs, behaviors, and social skills throughout life. They help us learn norms, values, and roles necessary to function in society. Key agents include family, which influences early development; schools, where we learn cooperation and discipline; peers, who affect social skills and identity; media, which shape perceptions and attitudes; and workplaces, where adult social roles are reinforced. These agents work together over time to help us become functioning members of our community.
