age grading

Age grading is a way to compare athletic performances across different ages and genders by using statistical standards called world age-graded tables. These tables provide performance benchmarks for each age group, allowing you to see how well someone did relative to typical standards for their age and sex. For example, if a 50-year-old’s run time is close to the world record for that age, their age-graded score would be high, indicating excellent performance. This method helps to fairly evaluate and motivate athletes by recognizing achievements appropriate to their age and physical development.
