Afghan Northern Alliance

The Afghan Northern Alliance was a diverse group of Afghan factions, mainly composed of ethnic Tajiks, Uzbeks, Hazaras, and some Pashtuns, that united in the late 1990s to oppose the Taliban's rule. Operating primarily in northern Afghanistan, they aimed to restore stability, protect human rights, and prevent Taliban dominance. Supported by countries like the United States and Russia, the Alliance played a key role in resisting Taliban advances and later helped in the U.S.-led efforts to remove the Taliban from power after 2001. Their efforts were crucial in shaping Afghanistan’s political landscape during that period.
