Afferent Connections
Afferent connections are the pathways through which sensory information is sent to the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord). They carry signals from sensory receptors in the body—like skin, muscles, and organs—to the brain, allowing us to perceive sensations such as touch, pain, temperature, and body position. Think of them as the nerves that bring important information from your body to your brain, enabling appropriate responses and awareness of your internal and external environment.
