Aesculus (Horse Chestnut)

Aesculus, commonly known as Horse Chestnut, is a deciduous tree native to Europe and Asia, easily recognizable by its large, palmate leaves and showy flower clusters. The tree produces conkers, which are shiny seeds encased in a spiky shell. Traditionally, extracts from Horse Chestnut seeds are used to treat circulatory conditions like varicose veins and swelling, thanks to compounds that can strengthen blood vessel walls and improve blood flow. However, raw seeds and bark contain toxic substances and should not be consumed raw. Overall, Horse Chestnut is valued both as an ornamental tree and for its medicinal applications.
