Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (ABMD)
The Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (ABMD) is a U.S. naval system designed to detect, track, and intercept short- and intermediate-range ballistic missiles before they reach their targets. It uses advanced radar and missile interceptor systems installed on guided missile cruisers and destroyers. When a missile threat is detected, the system quickly analyzes its trajectory and launches an interceptor missile to collide with and destroy the incoming missile mid-air. ABMD enhances regional security by providing a mobile, flexible defense capability that can be deployed worldwide, helping to protect against missile threats in a timely and effective manner.
