Aegir (oceanic phenomenon)

Aegir is an oceanic phenomenon involving large, powerful waves that can be generated by underwater disturbances such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, or landslides. These waves can travel across the ocean at high speeds and sometimes reach coastal areas with significant energy, causing flooding and damage. Unlike typical waves caused by wind, Aegir-like waves result from sudden tectonic shifts or mass movements beneath the ocean’s surface, making them part of a broader category called tsunamis. They are dangerous because their immense energy allows them to cover vast distances and strike coastlines with little warning.
