Aegeus
Aegeus is a figure from Greek mythology, known as the king of Athens. He is most famous for being the father of the hero Theseus. According to myth, Aegeus was childless and sought an heir; he visited the oracle at Delphi, who advised him not to loosen the wineskin until he returned to Athens. When Theseus grew up and came to Athens, Aegeus recognized him as his son and they united. Tragically, Aegeus mistakenly believed Theseus died in a dangerous quest and, in grief, threw himself into the sea, which was later named the Aegean Sea in his honor.
