Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs) are innovative medical treatments that use living cells or genes to treat diseases. They include gene therapies, which deliver new or modified genes; somatic cell therapies, which use cells to repair or replace damaged tissues; and tissue-engineered products that create or replace biological tissues. ATMPs offer potential cures for conditions that currently have few treatment options, including genetic disorders and certain cancers. Because they are complex and made from biological materials, their development and approval involve rigorous testing to ensure safety and effectiveness before reaching patients.
