Advanced Mobile Phone Service (AMPS)
Advanced Mobile Phone Service (AMPS) was the first widely used analog cellular technology introduced in the 1980s for mobile phone communication. It allowed for wireless voice calls by converting sound into radio signals, which were transmitted between the phone and cell towers. AMPS operated on specific radio frequencies, enabling users to move around within coverage areas while maintaining calls. Although replaced by digital technology due to better sound quality and security, AMPS was a foundational system that paved the way for modern mobile networks.
