Advanced Arresting Gear
Advanced Arresting Gear (AAG) is a sophisticated system used on aircraft carriers to safely and efficiently land large, high-speed fighter jets. When a jet lands, AAG quickly absorbs and dissipates the plane’s kinetic energy, preventing damage and allowing rapid recovery of the aircraft. Unlike traditional systems that use cables and hydraulic brakes, AAG employs electromagnetic technology—called Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) and arresting gear—using powerful magnets and controlled energy release. This setup provides smoother, more reliable, and faster landings, enabling aircraft carriers to operate modern, heavier jets safely and effectively.
