Adults with Incapacity Act (Scotland)
The Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000 provides legal protections and decision-making processes for adults who cannot fully look after their own affairs due to mental or physical incapacity. It sets out safeguarding measures, such as appointing legally authorized representatives (called deputies) to make decisions about health, well-being, and financial matters, ensuring their rights and best interests are maintained. The Act also emphasizes respecting the dignity and autonomy of individuals while providing necessary support in making decisions they might be unable to make alone.
