ADP Receptors
ADP receptors are specialized proteins on the surface of cells, especially platelets in the blood, that recognize and respond to the molecule ADP (adenosine diphosphate). When ADP binds to these receptors, it triggers processes like platelet activation and aggregation, which are essential for blood clot formation. This helps stop bleeding when injuries occur. There are different types of ADP receptors, such as P2Y12, which are targets for certain medications to prevent abnormal blood clots, important in treating heart attacks and strokes.
