Adorno and Horkheimer
Theodor Adorno and Max Horkheimer were influential 20th-century philosophers and social theorists. They co-developed the Frankfurt School's critical theory, analyzing how capitalism and mass media influence culture and individual thinking. They argued that modern society, through industry and popular culture, promotes conformity and diminishes critical thought, leading to a "culture industry" that manipulates people's tastes and perceptions. Their work encourages questioning societal norms, promoting awareness of the power structures shaping our ideas and behaviors, and fostering critical thinking to challenge oppressive systems.
