Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis
Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) is a condition where the spine develops a sideways curve during the teenage years, with no clear cause identified. It typically occurs between ages 10 and 18 and is more common in girls. The curvature can range from mild to severe and might cause uneven shoulders, waist or hips, and back pain in some cases. While the exact reason for AIS isn’t known, it’s believed to involve genetic and biological factors. Most cases are mild and can be monitored or treated with bracing or surgery if the curve progresses significantly, helping prevent further deformity and associated problems.
