Administrative License Suspension

Administrative License Suspension (ALS) is a legal process where a driver’s license is temporarily taken away by authorities if they are found to be driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or fail a sobriety test. This suspension occurs regardless of whether the driver is criminally charged and usually begins immediately after the violation is detected. Its purpose is to quickly remove unsafe drivers from the road and promote public safety, while also providing a procedural process for the licensee to challenge or appeal the suspension if desired.
