Adirondack Mountains

The Adirondack Mountains, located in northeastern New York, are a rugged, forested mountain range covering over 6 million acres. Unlike a typical mountain range formed by volcanic activity, they are primarily composed of ancient, uplifted rocks shaped by glaciers and erosion. The area features scenic lakes, diverse wildlife, and over 100 peaks taller than 4,000 feet. It is a popular destination for outdoor activities like hiking, skiing, and camping. The Adirondacks also include the Adirondack Park, one of the largest protected natural areas in the U.S., balancing conservation with recreation.
