adenomatous polyps

Adenomatous polyps are growths that develop on the inner lining of the colon or rectum. They are a type of benign (non-cancerous) tumor, but some can eventually become colorectal cancer over time if not removed. These polyps often develop slowly and may not cause symptoms, which is why regular screening like colonoscopies is important for early detection. Removal of adenomatous polyps can prevent the progression to cancer. Most adenomatous polyps are small, but larger ones or those with certain features have a higher risk of turning cancerous.
