Adenoids

Adenoids are small lumps of lymphatic tissue located behind the nose and roof of the mouth. They are part of the immune system, helping the body fight off infections, especially in children. Adenoids are most active during childhood and tend to shrink with age. When swollen or enlarged, they can cause issues like nasal congestion, breathing difficulties, snoring, or recurrent ear infections. Sometimes, if they cause significant problems, a doctor may recommend surgical removal. Overall, adenoids play a role in immune defense but are less essential after early childhood, which is why they often diminish naturally over time.
