Adele Bloch-Bauer
Adele Bloch-Bauer was a wealthy Viennese Jewish woman and a prominent social figure in early 20th-century Austria. She is best known for being the subject of Gustav Klimt's famous portrait, "Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I," created in 1907. This artwork is celebrated for its intricate gold detailing and symbolist style. During World War II, the painting was seized by the Nazis, leading to a lengthy legal battle for its ownership. It was eventually restituted to Adele's heirs, highlighting issues of art theft and cultural restitution. The painting now resides in the Neue Galerie in New York.
