Adavus

Adavus are the fundamental steps or rhythmic movements in classical Indian dance forms like Bharatanatyam. They serve as building blocks that help dancers develop coordination, balance, and understanding of rhythm and body positioning. Each Adavu involves specific footwork, hand gestures, and controlled movements performed in sync with the music and rhythm. Practicing Adavus systematically allows dancers to master complex sequences, express emotions, and tell stories through movement. Essentially, they are the foundational exercises that refine a dancer’s technique and serve as the basis for more elaborate dance sequences.
