ADA-SCID

ADA-SCID (Adenosine Deaminase Severe Combined Immunodeficiency) is a rare genetic disorder where the immune system fails to develop properly. It is caused by a deficiency of the enzyme adenosine deaminase (ADA), which is essential for the survival of certain immune cells. Without enough ADA, harmful substances accumulate in the body, destroying immune cells like T and B cells. As a result, individuals with ADA-SCID have a severely weakened immune system, making them highly vulnerable to infections. It is usually diagnosed early in life and requires treatments such as enzyme replacement therapy, gene therapy, or bone marrow transplants to restore immune function.
