ADA deficiency

ADA deficiency, also known as Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID), is a genetic disorder where the body lacks the enzyme adenosine deaminase (ADA). This enzyme is crucial for the development and function of immune cells that protect against infections. Without enough ADA, these immune cells cannot mature properly, leaving individuals extremely vulnerable to infections. It is typically diagnosed in infants and requires prompt treatment, such as enzyme replacement therapy or bone marrow transplants, to help restore immune function and prevent severe, life-threatening infections.
