Acute Tubular Necrosis
Acute Tubular Necrosis (ATN) is a kidney condition where the tiny tubes inside the kidneys, called renal tubules, become damaged. This often occurs due to a lack of blood flow to the kidneys (like from severe dehydration or shock) or exposure to toxic substances (like certain medications or contrast dyes used in imaging). When these tubes are damaged, they can't filter waste from the blood effectively, leading to kidney failure. Symptoms may include reduced urine output, swelling, and electrolyte imbalances. ATN can be serious but is often reversible with prompt treatment.
