acute tubular injury

Acute tubular injury (ATI) is a condition where the kidneys' tiny filtering units, called tubules, become damaged suddenly. This damage hampers the kidneys’ ability to filter waste and excess fluid from the blood effectively. Causes can include reduced blood flow, toxins, or severe infections. Symptoms may include fluid retention, swelling, decreased urine output, or changes in blood tests. With proper treatment and addressing the underlying cause, kidney function often improves, but in some cases, damage may be lasting. ATI is a serious condition that requires prompt medical attention to prevent further kidney failure.
